How to analyze yelp reviews

Yelp reviews are local business reviews, most often for restaurants, bars, salons, dentists, and neighborhood services. They are written like a night out or an appointment, with food, service, wait, price, and vibe mixed in the same paragraph.

We do not have a Yelp Chrome extension. Yelp also does not give the public a bulk CSV of every review on a page. If you own the business, use Yelp for Business to read your reviews, respond, and copy the rating, text, and date into a spreadsheet. That is the path that stays inside Yelp's own product.

Yelp's Fusion API exists for approved partners. It is not a consumer export button, and this site is not a Yelp API client. If you are an agency with legitimate API access, export through that program into CSV, then upload the file here. Otherwise, build the sheet by hand or from reports you already keep for the client.

Do not paste a scraped dump from an unofficial "Yelp downloader." Besides the terms problem, those files are often incomplete, duplicated, or missing dates, which makes trend charts misleading.

Columns that help: rating, review text, date, reviewer name, and a location or page URL if you manage several venues. Rating and text are required. Yelp reviews are often long. Keep the full body, not a truncated preview. If you tracked whether you replied, add that column so unanswered 1-star reviews are obvious.

Insights are hospitality and local operations. Restaurants should watch wait time without a warning, ticket time, food temperature, noise, parking, and "server never came back." Salons should watch punctuality and whether the result matched the consult. Clinics should watch front desk and billing surprises. A "great food, chaotic service" pattern is a staffing floor plan problem, not a recipe problem.

Yelp also over-indexes on special occasions and bad nights. A Saturday 8pm seating will look harsher than Tuesday lunch. If your sheet has dates, look at volume by month and at clusters around holidays, menu changes, or a manager leaving. Praise phrases like "came back for the sauce" or "they remembered my name" are specific enough to train staff. Vague "nice vibe" is weaker.

Upload the CSV or Excel file on this page. The analyzer runs locally, extracts repeated complaint and praise phrases, and lets you search the underlying reviews. No Yelp login is involved on our side.

Frequently asked questions

Do you have a Yelp reviews exporter?

No. We only ship Chrome extensions for Google Maps, Amazon, and Trustpilot. For Yelp, use Yelp for Business if you own the listing, or compile a CSV from reviews you are allowed to copy.

Can Yelp owners export reviews?

Owners can read and reply in Yelp for Business. There is no simple public CSV for every visitor. Copy rating, text, and date into a spreadsheet, then upload it here.

What themes show up most in restaurant Yelp reviews?

Wait time, service recovery, food temperature, noise, and value. Split "the food was good" from "we waited 40 minutes" so you do not fix the wrong thing.

Does this tool log into Yelp?

No. It only reads a file you upload in the browser.

Should I include very old reviews?

Include them if you want history, but also run a recent-only slice. A kitchen that changed last spring should not be judged only by reviews from 2019.
